I particularly like the tactic of highlighting all the "other reviewer" recs here. It makes it a very useful resource.
ReplyDeleteThanks. We had hoped it would be. We'll probably write an article at some point that looks at the differences between reviewers. In particular, it's surprising that any one-star stories got recommended by anyone, but about a quarter of them have been.
DeleteSurprised you omitted the novelette "Sacred Cows: Death and Squalor on the Rio Grande" by A. S. Diev, published at Giganotosaurus in May. On IO9 in June, K. Tempest Bradford called it one of the best science fiction stories of the year, and reviewed it very positively in her blog. http://io9.gizmodo.com/what-are-the-best-short-stories-of-the-year-so-far-ju-1713433313
ReplyDeleteGiganotosaurus isn't on our radar at the moment. What about the story appealed to you?
DeleteMmm, it's about a rock and roll journalist trying to get her job back by reporting on a murder trial in Mexico involving genetically-modified farm animals, a big corporation, and a hint of the drug cartels. I may have misunderstood your site - I thought everything recommended by your prolific reviewers gets listed here (in this case, KTB http://io9.gizmodo.com/io9-newsstand-the-best-stories-from-the-week-of-may-3-1703080879); I didn't realize you only cover certain magazines. No big deal. Thanks for your site, very helpful.
