The Fabulous Follicle, by Harvey Jacobs

The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, November/December 2015; 5,275 words
Rating: 3, Good, ordinary, story  Recommended By:   SFRevu:4

Cute slipstream story about Morris the barber, who takes on some rather non-traditional clients in order to raise money to open his own shop.

Mini-Review (click to view--possible spoilers)

Pro: We start with Morris wanting his own place, and we finish up with him having exactly that, with no more partners.

It's very cute the way Morris never questions whether werewolves actually exist. Various slipstream touches are entertaining. E.g. the werewolf paying with a credit card.

Con: Morris is a weak character. He does little to deserve his success, and ultimately pays no price for it either. Mrs. Trankxyona and Carkas do all the hard things for him.
