It is Healing, It is Never Whole, by Sunny Moraine

Apex Magazine, August 2015;  3,400 words
Rating: 4, Recommended  Recommended By:  Locus

When the souls of the suicides tumble out of the low, gray clouds, the narrator is one of the ones who collect them, contain them, and load them onto the train.

Mini-Review (click to view--possible spoilers)

The narrator takes his/her next step, riding away from "suicide junction" as he/she had often dreamed of doing. It was just a matter of waiting until the right missing piece came along. The more you read this one, the more you see how all the pieces of the story contribute to the whole.

The ending is a bit of a letdown. It was obvious what was going to happen from about half-way through.

  1. I agree with the rating and the review.

It is very beautifully written, and worth reading.
