Mini-Review (click to view--possible spoilers)
Pro: The story and the characters are very real. The mystery is gripping, and there's a reasonable amount of tension at the end.
Con: The first few paragraphs are rather awkward, when the author tries to explain a few bits about the language. The deus-ex-machina ending is unsatisfying.
This is part of Chilson's "Prime Mondeign" series, set about 60 million years in the future, but nothing in the story itself reveals that fact. It could easily be taken for fantasy.
