A Small Diversion on the Road to Hell, by Jonathan L. Howard

Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, March/April 2015; 3,617 words

Humorous story about a bartender on another planet having a slow day until a time traveler turns up.

Mini-Review (click to view--possible spoilers)

The narrator's endless word play gets old fast. It's not clear why he sometimes (but not always) says things like "I says" instead of "I say." The general time-paradox plot is confusing, since the first man and the second man seem to be the same man, except that the second man is cleaning up after the first man. Ultimately, it's a joke that isn't very funny.
