Helping Hand, by Claudine Griggs

Lightspeed Magazine, June 2015; 1,500 words
Rating: 3, Good, ordinary, story  Recommended By:   SFRevu:4

When Alexandria's propulsion unit fails on a solo space mission, she knows she's going to die if she can't think of something--it's just a matter of time.

Mini-Review (click to view--possible spoilers)

Pro: Very nice, traditional, space problem. Hero finds a technical solution. Victory is satisfying.

Con: The hand isn't going to freeze that quickly. The ending would be more satisfying if her injury meant taking a desk job--she seems to get away with it at no cost.
