Mini-Review (click to view--possible spoilers)
The big problem with this story is that there's no conclusion to it. We're waiting to learn whether the hero defeated the monster. If she'll be coming back to save her little family. But it ends with them just waiting.
The author interview reveals that the author wanted to write a tie-in novel to a video game. "Kaiju maximus" is that imaginary game, and we get a few tastes of the back story here and there. But that also explains why everything is so dramatic and yet nothing feels serious.
