Dublin 2019 Recap

Eric & Greg @ WorldCon 77 in Dublin, Ireland
Last month, Eric and I attended Dublin 2019 (the 77th World Science-Fiction Convention) in Dublin, Ireland. This was our fifth WorldCon, and, as a result, it marks the fourth anniversary of Rocket Stack Rank.

The Hugo Awards

Winners

Our function at Rocket Stack Rank is to make it easier for people to find good short fiction and other information that could help them make informed nominations for the Hugos and other awards. We are not here to tell people how to vote. For that reason, we didn't offer suggestions for the final vote--not even a "this is how we're voting" post. For the same reason, we aren't going to reevaluate the stories that actually won the awards. We offer our congratulations to all the winners.

Losers

Best Fanzine finalists. We're seated behind George R.R. Martin.
Rocket Stack Rank itself was a nominee for Best Fanzine, finishing 6 out of 6 but beating No Award. We weren't sure what to expect since we've had kind of a lazy year in terms of special articles, but we were proud just to be nominated. In particular, we enjoy the extra events and attention that come with being a finalist, and we thank our loyal fans who nominated and voted for us. You folks make it all worthwhile!

We offer our congratulations to Best Fanzine winner Lady Business, and to all the other finalists.

Rocket Stack Rank itself was a nominee for Best Fanzine, finishing 6 out of 6 but beating No Award. Given the fallout from last year's events, this was actually better than we had expected. We offer our congratulations to Best Fanzine winner File 770 and to all the other finalists.

Rocket Stack Rank at WorldCon 76

We will both attend the 76th World Science Fiction Convention in San Jose this week. For the benefit of fans who want to meet us and chat a bit, here's a part of our schedule.

Stroll With The Stars

Fans meet with a few program participants for a casual walk around the convention center.

This event happens every morning, from Friday August 17 to Monday August 20, at 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. It always meets in the Lower Level Plaza (San Jose Convention Center).

Greg is one of the featured people on the Friday morning walk, but we plan to attend all four of them. It's probably the best place to meet to say hello, pick up a ribbon, and have a casual chat.

Panels

Greg will be on three different panels. By all means attend, ask questions, or just come up afterwards to say hi. Here's how the WorldCon schedule describes those panels:

WorldCon 75 Takeaways

Eric and Greg inside the convention hall.
Two weeks ago, Eric and I attended WorldCon 75 in Helsinki, Finland. I'll discuss things of interest to readers of short fiction and fans of the Hugo Awards first, and I'll leave the personal stuff to the end.

MidAmeriCon II Takeaways

Eric and I attended MidAmeriCon II last week: our second-ever WorldCon. We had a good time, met some interesting people, and learned a few things. I'll discuss things of interest to readers of short fiction and fans of the Hugo Awards first, and I'll leave the personal stuff to the end.
