Pro: Percher and Skink start off as aimless refugees, but in the course of the story, they support each other, overcome a big challenge, and find a new purpose.
Con: This reads like the beginning of a much longer story.
Percher isn’t properly grounded as a character: we have little clue as to his age or gender, although various things imply he’s Skink’s older step brother.

Author's blog says that a prequel to this story, “Climbing the Motherman”, is coming out soon in DreamForge Magazine issue #5. He is also working on a sequel.
