Last Transaction, by Nik Constantine

Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, March/April 2015; 2,555 words
Rating: 3, Good, ordinary, story

On colony 13, citizen 79867 is about to have a very bad day, owning to an unauthorized transaction.

Mini-Review (click to view--possible spoilers)

Pro: The story moves along quickly, and the various steps that 79867 takes all seem rational. The conclusion is amusing.

Con: The system described seems both too strict (no opportunity to protest one's innocence) and too insecure (the fugitive easily hacks the system without access to work or home equipment).
