The Language of Knives, by Haralambi Markov

Tor.com, February 4, 2015; 2,719 words
Rating: 2, Not recommended  Recommended By: io9   SFEP

A man butchers the corpse of his husband to cook a meal for the gods, as required by his culture's funeral rites.

Mini-Review (click to view--possible spoilers)

Pro: The protagonist reconciles with his daughter.

Con: This story is painful to read--the grisly details of dismembering and cooking the body of a loved one are almost unbearable. The whole thing is impossible to believe, from start to end.
