All Who Tremble, by A.A. Balaskovits

Apex Magazine, July 7, 2015; 3,900 words
Rating: 3, Good, ordinary, story  Recommended By:   SFRevu:4

The neighbors in their Russian village fear and loathe the strange family in their whirring house, but the daughter dreams of a better life.

Mini-Review (click to view--possible spoilers)

The imagery is good--the location becomes real to us. People outside the house behave reasonably and rationally, while those inside defy all rationality. This feels strongly like a metaphor for religion, although it's hard to nail it down.

Biggest knock against this story is that it's not clear what it means.
