★★★☆☆
(SF) Thicket is sure their Detective Pikachu vs. Predator story would be a big hit if they could only get the Machine-Assisted StoryTelling platform to accept it. (2,134 words; Time: 07m)
"Voice of Their Generation," by Andrew Dana Hudson (edited by John Joseph Adams), appeared in Lightspeed Magazine issue 119, published on April 1, 2020.
Mini-Review (click to view--possible spoilers)
Review: 2020.205 (A Word for Authors)
Pro: This story probably resonates with writers (and maybe editors) since it describes a hugely accelerated form of the submit/reject cycle most writers experience. Thicket only gets works accepted through a huge effort (aka obsession) and persists even though the payoff for each work is quite small.
Con: I don’t think anything else in the story is meant to be taken seriously.
