Review: 2020.099 (A Word for Authors)

Pro: The heart of the story is YΓ©tsade’s attempts to learn what she needs to know to be useful to her people—the ones who raised her. This is commendable, since it’s clear she’ll never fit into either Halifax society or human society. That she wants to be of service speaks quite highly of her.

Con: Admittedly it’s part of the what-if, but the idea of a planet that’s so Earthlike that aliens could successfully raise a child without it starving to death for lack of nutrition is pretty far-fetched. Perhaps just as far-fetched is the idea that a social worker could be reassigned to be ambassador plenipotentiary to the principal alien race on such an Earthlike planet.
