For our purposes, we define "high fantasy" as a fantasy story that takes place in a secondary world. That is, something like Lord of the Rings, where Middle Earth is clearly not in the past or future of our world.
We've included portal fantasies, provided the destination is a secondary world.

- 27 are free online (highlighted in default view), 12 have podcasts.
- Among 📚publications, it should be no surprise that Beneath Ceaseless Skies has the most high fantasy stories here with 13 stories (33%). Analog and Interzone had none.
- Among ️️✒️authors, 3 stories are by Matthew Hughes, followed by 2 stories each by Sarah Pinsker and A. Merc Rustad.
- High fantasy stories make up 11% of SF/F 🏆awards finalists with 11 stories out of 101 total award-nominated stories from the 2018 Best SF/F. However, the only winner was "The Tale of the Three Beautiful Raptor Sisters and the Prince Who Was Made of Meat" for the magazine-specific Uncanny Magazine Favorite Fiction Reader Poll award.
- High fantasy did a bit worse (8%) among "year's best" 📙anthologies with 10 stories out of 121 total included stories from the 2018 Best SF/F. Jonathan Strahan and Rich Horton's anthologies each have 4 stories listed here.
- They did best (14%) among prolific 👍reviewers with 17 stories out of 123 total award-worthy stories from the 2018 Best SF/F. Gary Tognetti thought 8 of the 17 were award-worthy.
- As for RSR, we recommended 20 stories (4 award worthy), were neutral on 16 stories, and only recommended against 3 stories (view by RSR rating).
