Pro: The real story is one we gather between the lines; the young narrator was removed from his mother’s custody because of her untraditional beliefs and behavior. He’s done the training to complete this ceremony and become an adult, which means (presumably) he can leave the custody of his aunt and uncle and move back with his mom. However, he can’t resist the opportunity to stick it to the traditionalists before he goes.
Con: The lengthy discussion about the various holy books is fairly dull, and that’s 90% of the content of this story.
