Mini-Review (click to view--possible spoilers)

Pro: Ruby is the star of this show, and she comes across as a very good hippo indeed. We can see why Houndstooth is willing to spend money on her. And it's fitting that he doesn't get to keep any of his ill-gotten loot.

Con: Suspension of disbelief problems spoil this story. Starting with Houndstooth getting Ruby out of the mud wallow by reasoning with her. In real life, hippos are deadly and unpredictable.

Houndstooth comes across very badly in this story, where he appears to have murdered some people just to steal their gold. Anyone reading this who hasn't read the novellas will wonder why he's the hero.
