Pro: The big payoff from this story is the emotional rush when we realize the “foo fighters” rescued Raymond when he begged them to. His character is well-developed (and he’s an SF fan to boot), so we wish him well and we’re happy for him.
Colonel Smith’s desire to help Raymond endears him to us as well, and the tension of knowing that Raymond only has to survive this one last run adds a good bit of excitement to the tale.
Con: There’s no real reason why the foo fighters would want to rescue Raymond; he didn’t really do anything to earn it.
