Mini-Review (click to view--possible spoilers)
Pro: It’s a very clever problem. The evaluators are the super predators, and they’ve replaced the crew of the first-contact mission with their own offspring. Earth people who were greedy to get the palladium deposits have probably doomed us as a species.
It’s marvelous the way the pieces of the story come together at the end. The price of palladium, the historic superpredator, the missing crew, etc. A delicious chill runs down your spine when you realize what has really happened here.
Con: Given the format, there’s not much room for character development.
