Pro: The voice of the kid explaining their secret sport is spot-on. His concern about possibly losing one of the few sources of fun available to young people comes through clearly, as does his worry for his injured friend.
By the end, when the commander decides to let them continue and even develop their activity into a proper sport, we’re happy for them and for her too. In a very short space, the author has managed to develop both characters into people we actually care about.
Con: There isn’t much to this story. Just an interview and a couple of infodumps.
The science is rather poor. A magnetic umbrella can’t contain an atmosphere. A solenoid around the equator isn’t going to change the radiation Mars gets.
