(Far-Future SF; Franden) Franden goes to a fight club to get some ideas for characters in his stories. A peaceful sort, despite his size, he has no intention of actually participating. (5,965 words; Time: 19m)

Mini-Review (click to view--possible spoilers)
Pro: Franden gets roped into the fight, gets made a fool of, wins the fight, gets beaten by the crowd, and lands in the hospital—and yet he does get what he came for. He knows what he wants to write about now.
It looks like he impressed his girlfriend and he'll get revenge on her nephew.
Con: Banner is a cardboard villain.
The stakes in the story are pretty small.

Nice to see Franden again, but wish we'd found out more about Maya.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I really like Franden. I keep hoping we'll see him in a story that's good enough to recommend on its own.
