Mini-Review (click to view--possible spoilers)
Pro: The narrator realizes that she’s content with her life—warts and all—and doesn’t wish to trade it for a different sets of problems. It's touching that the one thing she most wants to change--An Li's health--is the one thing she can do nothing about.
Con: This is a rather obvious way to end the story, inasmuch as the original idea sounded more like suicide than anything else.

Nicely drawn friendship. Since the SF element stays entirely off-screen, it becomes more of a thought experiment.
