(Horror) When old Merle was young, he wanted to paint all the bars in South Jersey. He did The Thousand Eyes last. A hard place to find. A place where The Voice of Death performs on Wednesdays. (4,482 words; Time: 14m)

Pro: Inspired by the fairy tale, The Voice of Death, this story is really about Merle’s failed attempt to paint The Thousand Eyes. There’s some action and excitement—especially when it seems clear that Ronnie is undead and chasing after Merle..
Con: The ending is unsatisfying somehow. Why does Merle still keep that painting around? He can’t possibly imagine that it offers eternal life—not after he saw what Ronnie looked like.
