(Chivalry) When the queen sends her young nephew on a quest, she sends Eddia LaCrosse along to keep him safe. (4,050 words; Time: 13m)
Rating: Not Rated No Speculative Element
There are other Eddie LaCrosse stories, and those might have some speculative element, but this one is simply a tale of knights in armor. It's a fine tale, but it's not SFF.
"White Hart, Black Knight," by Alex Bledsoe [bio], appeared in Uncanny Magazine issue 13, published on November 5, 2016.

Pro: The author manages to make us really like Signe, in the short time we know her, such that we're horrified when she dies.
Con: Bryce is such a caricature that it's hard to believe he's real.
