Mini-Review (click to view--possible spoilers)
Pro: The story is really about Ed taking adult responsibility for something. He hints at this when he talks about wishing he'd had a dog. He makes excuses to himself that he worries what Matthew might do, but the truth is that this is something he wants to do entirely by himself.
The anticipation that Matthew might do something stupid adds a good bit of tension to the story.
Con: The tension is released with nothing to show for it. Tom doesn't contribute anything to the story either.
