Pro: The story is really about the narrator deciding whether to grow up or not. When he gives away his bike, we know he's not going to be buying another one.
The cyclist slang spices the story up quite a bit. A tire isn't bent it's "tacoed."
Con: We lose sympathy with the narrator when he stabs the two boys. The night cyclist is a monster who's killed three people already. Yes, the boys shouldn't be putting obstacles in the bike paths, but it's not fun seeing the narrator become a murderer with zero remorse.
