Mini-Review (click to view--possible spoilers)

Pro: This story is pretty much an account of Tonio's adventure, and on those terms it succeeds. Beyond that, this is the story of how Garland made it though Gale's croning ceremony without agreeing to an enchantment that would have cost him much of his humanity.

Con: There's not really a plot here; none of the main characters is in control of events.

Tonio is too well-spoken for a 12-year-old.
