Pro: Juvianna is an awfully nice person who genuinely cares about people. The Mair's plan to use her gift against everyone suspicious is so contrary to her nature, that we know she's bound to reject it eventually. To that end, she even sacrifices Davi's love for her, because she knows she is probably going to her death, and she can't bear being the cause of his death too. It's a pure victory of good over evil because she gains nothing and pays a heavy price.

Con: The story doesn't really contain any surprises; we're not surprised that Staal plots against Juvianna. We're not surprised that Davi fights him. We're not surprised that Davi loves Juvianna. And we're not surprised that she uses her gift against the Mair himself at the end. We are surprised that the Mair was willing to be alone with her.
