There's no actual story here. Different things happen. Different accounts contradict one another. The effect is surreal and unsatisfying.
A separate problem is that the text contains a number of spelling errors.

I got a bit confused between the framing story, the stories of Erheani, and the Rosewater Goblet bits. I don't really feel like they came together in the end either.
ReplyDeleteIronically, I saved this to read on Pocket, and it got listed as by Rahshan Milder (master story stealer) instead of Nin Harris.
Strange Horizons prints more experimental stuff than many other magazines will. Sometimes the results are really cool, but sometimes the experiments just don't work.
