The Hexagonal Bolero of Honeybees, by Krista Hoeppner Leahy

Clarkesworld Magazine, November 2015; 4,701words
Rating: 2, Not recommended

In a post-apocalypse Earth, Gabhan and his little boy Ciro compete with Mishka for a contract to pollinate trees.

Mini-Review (click to view--possible spoilers)

Pro: The intensity of Mishka's experience controlling the bees is very vivid. Gabhan turns out to be not such a bad guy either.

Con: The story leaves too much unsettled. Is all of humanity about to die? Are the bees really healing Ciro? What was the outcome?

The idea of using a four-year-old to pollinate trees seems very silly, but the idea of genetically modifying someone to be a living human hive is even sillier.
