No Decent Patrimony, by Elizabeth Bear

Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine, February 2015; ~7,600 words
Rating: 3, Good, ordinary, story

About 150 years from now, a man who made his fortune providing immortality to the wealthy dies in a car explosion, and his son reckons with his legacy.

Mini-Review (click to view--possible spoilers)

Pro: We start with the explosion and we end with the arrest of a conspirator, so it's certainly a complete story. The writing is good, and the setting feels real.

Con: Edward is pretty much a passive figure. To the extent there is a story, it happens off-stage.
