And If the Body Were Not the Soul, by A.C. Wise

Clarkesworld Magazine, October 2015; 8,349 words
Rating: 3, Good, ordinary, story

Ro can't tolerate touching other human beings, but an accidental contact with an alien changes Ro's world.

Mini-Review (click to view--possible spoilers)

Pro: Nice story about how Ro learns that he/she doesn't have to be isolated, learns not to be afraid, and finds a path forward. It's good that the three-way contact with Xal hasn't magically "cured" Ro.

Con: It's hard to believe that no one ever noticed this special ability of the Immies. If it had turned out that it only worked with Ro, that would have been much more credible. The choice to conceal Ro's gender was a distraction, albeit a small one.
