Review: 2019.463 (A Word for Authors)

Pro: Like a good rescue story, it’s pretty much non-stop tension. When the escape pod lands, we’ve already learned that Maya is unusually conscientious and willing to risk herself to protect her own crew, so it’s no surprise that she takes risks to try to rescue these two.

The twist that one of the two is a criminal adds more excitement at just the right time, and the worry that maybe, somehow, he’s not dead adds tension that follows her all the way into orbit.

Her realization that she really has done the right thing, she really is a hero, and that she’ll take a medical leave and go somewhere warmer ends it on a satisfying note.

Con: The detailed descriptions of her actions make the story drag in a few places. Also, her unwillingness to level with her team seemed out-of-character, making it seem she didn’t trust them.
