I hope it's not that they thought it was a realistic vision of the future!Greg Hullenderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16720604327299886491noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1390876285955310032.post-45837783449318587912019-10-16T22:51:47.849-07:002019-10-16T22:51:47.849-07:00I agree with the 3-star rating. Took me a while to get access to this story and read it.Junehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08645772819461388524noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1390876285955310032.post-54699915559221066732017-04-18T17:49:01.150-07:002017-04-18T17:49:01.150-07:00This was garbage. I read it because it made it into the four "year's best SF" anthologies, found it a somewhat confusing read, then I re-read it in case I missed some key element that would make me see what the anthologists saw, but no dice.

I agree with the mini-review that nothing we saw in the sisters' relationship prepared us for the ending. The plot is minimal, so that leaves the setting as perhaps the main attraction of the story. I suppose the mutual dependency between humans and AI is interesting (AIs entertain/mentally assist humans, humans serve as hands for AIs). The Chinese in the future have the "global imperialist" role that the Americans and British had in the past, which is bad because the illegal emigrants hope to travel to a place with no Chinese. For some reason, that bugs me more than if the author replaced Chinese with Indians or Canadians. :-)EFWonghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13802595693863129468noreply@blogger.com
